Too often do we forget we live on a Blue Planet. We never have been more reliant on oceans: we feed ourselves with fish, we ship goods throughout oceans, oceans biodiversity provides lifesaving molecules while they absorb a significant part of CO2 and of the excess heat in our climate system.
Despite their importance, oceans are becoming more polluted and acid, and their ecosystems are more and more fragile: because of the plastics that end up in the oceans, erosion of coastlines, oil spills, and because of global warming.
To save our earth, we need to protect our oceans.
WHAT IS AT
STAKE ?
>WHAT IS THE GRANDCHALLENGE ABOUT
The Joint European Disruptive Initiative, the European ARPA,
will launch scientific & technology Challenges around:
LOCALIZE PLASTICS IN THE OCEANS
TRACK THE ORIGIN OF AT LEAST 75% OF MICROPLASTICS
RECYCLING PLASTIC MEDICAL SUPPLIES, INCLUDING MASKS
PREVENT OIL SPILLS
TRACK MARINE BIODIVERSITY
LEVERAGE OCEAN MICROBIOME TO DEVELOP NEW DRUGS
Starting soon, we will be welcoming all proposals from the best teams globally that can provide solutions to one of the 5 Challenges listed above.
We will then finetune specific JEDI Challenges with highly-ambitious metrics for success, that will be launched in the coming months.
