JEDI Agri Carbon Tracker – JEDI SoilCarb
WHAT IS AT
STAKE?
Soil Carbon Sequestration (SCS) is a critical frontier in addressing climate change. By storing carbon in soil, we can mitigate global greenhouse gas emissions, enhance plant growth, and restore sustainable ecosystems. However, measuring and verifying SCS remains costly and challenging, posing barriers to adoption and scalability.
WHAT IF we could measure consistently & efficiently the carbon sequestration in agriculture/soils

GOAL
Measuring the carbon sequestration of farming.
Measure Scope 3 of major offtakers (food industry) & compensate farmers

IMPACT
Being able to measure the soil carbon sequestration (in particular the proportion of organic matter) of a specific fields will allow to:
Better orient agriculture policies, and link climate & agriculture policies
Give a land-value to farmers
Create a more transparent market & incentives for farmers to increase their SCS

TECHNOLOGY AVENUES

Imagery Technology: Multispectral and hyperspectral imaging innovations

Remote Sensing: Drones, airplanes, and satellite applications

Real-Time AI Solutions: Data analysis and management

Smart Farming/IoT Devices
KEY METRICS

Tracking SCS with a 1km2 precision with 80% accuracy or more. One precise indicator of SCS could be the Organic concentration in soils

Ensuring that energy & GHG used for calculation & measurement (in particular for AI models) will be much lower than what is today used for SCS measurement.

CHALLENGE RESULTS
Being able to model the soil carbon sequestration of a specific field in would have a massive impact and allow:

Measure Scope 3 of major offtakers (food industry) & compensate farmers

Better orient agriculture policies, and link climate & agriculture policies

Give a land-value to farmers and nudging them to store more carbon

Create a more transparent market & incentives for farmers to increase their SCS

Reducing use of traditional intrants, many linked with gas prices

Advancing research and better understanding which agricultural plots and techniques are promoting the storage of carbon

Through rigorous science and technology, we aim to standardize soil carbon measurement, creating a foundation for transparent, impactful agricultural practices worldwide.
For our plants and crops to grow and flourish. WE NEED TO ACT NOW
